Irish Whiskey Chaser

 

 

  

    US whiskey lover Mark Andrews originally sourced some of the last remaining old casks of pure pot still whiskey from the Closed Tullamore Distillery in the 1960's. These were bottled under the Knappogue Castle name after the very Castle that Mr Andrews and his wife restored in Co Clare, Ireland. It is unknown how many casks were purchased but it is thought at least 8 from the 36yo/1951 stock we bottled in 1987. A few earlier casks are also known to be bottled, probably for private use & gifting. So there are also bottles of Knappogue 1949 & Knappogue 1950 still in existence but would be very rare finds.

     However it really started with Mr Andrews son (also Mark, the 3rd ) marketing Knappogue Castle as a Brand proper. Setting up Great Spirits Company LLC, in 1998 then the comapny name changing to Castle Brands Inc. The first fully accessible commercial release being the 1990 version and has been Bottled in Vintages and as a single malt ever since bar once in 2008 when there was a limited expression created from some earlier old stocks still in cask and released as a 15yo.
